Glittering a Turd: New Edition

When you think of CoppaFeel! your first thought is probably boob suits, glitter and Kris Hallenga.

Kris was diagnosed with stage 4, incurable breast cancer at 23. Among the grief, the fear and the uncertainty that came with the diagnosis, Kris and her twin sister Maren founded something incredible: the UK’s first breast cancer awareness charity for young people – CoppaFeel!.

Together, they campaigned for better health outcomes for young people diagnosed with breast cancer. Kris successfully pushed for cancer education to be included in the school curriculum, received an honorary doctorate and won multiple awards for her work.

She found joy in something life-altering. She turned lemons into lemonade. She truly grabbed life by the boobs.

Glittering a Turd

In 2021, Kris released her memoir ‘Glittering a Turd’ – where she talked about her diagnosis, the journey to creating CoppaFeel!, and much, much more. The book provides an honest and moving guide on how to live life to its fullest, and brings inspiration on how we can all learn to (in her words) glitter our own turds.

Kris’ FUNeral and legacy

In May 2024, Kris died – almost a year after her FUNeral; a celebration of her life, whilst she was still alive. Surrounded by the people she loved, and the people who loved her, the dress code was ‘You Only Die Once’.

Kris wore a sparkly glitter jumpsuit, and her dear friend Dawn French performed a comedy speech as the Vicar of Dibley. It was everything that represented who Kris was.

A new chapter, written by Maren Hallenga

Now, in 2026, Maren has added more material to the best-selling novel. The new edition outlines Kris’ last years, her living funeral, more details from her FUNeral, and how she’s navigating life without her twin sister. And as an extra treat, Dawn French has written a foreword.

Maren herself has played a huge part in changing the landscape for breast cancer awareness in the UK. She honours Kris by advocating for better quality of life care for people with secondary breast cancer – pushing for improved palliative care, higher end-of-life standards and living life to the fullest, beyond cancer.
