We’re delighted to launch our newest awareness resource – created with and for the Haredi (Ultra-Orthodox) Jewish community.
Breast cancer doesn’t always look or feel the same for everyone, and neither do the conversations around it. This resource was developed collaboratively, with people from the community involved at every stage.
Together, we shaped its content, language, design and framing, as well as where and how it would be shared, so it felt culturally appropriate and could reach people in the right way.

Why we made this new resource
Having Jewish ancestry increases the risk of having a BRCA gene change, which raises the lifetime risk of breast cancer.
- In the Ashkenazi community, around 1 in 40 people have this gene change.
- In the Sephardi community, it’s around 1 in 140 people.
This is compared to around 1 in 250 people in the UK general population.
It’s one of the reasons Jewish people are a priority audience in our work to close the gap on late diagnosis.
Built together
This booklet was co-created and in partnership with:
- North East London Cancer Alliance (NELCA)
- Acheinu Cancer Support
- Charedi Women’s Health Alliance
- Lev Chaim
- Beis Brucha
- A female Ultra-Orthodox designer
Members of the Haredi community guided every stage of the work – from the language used to the imagery on the page. This collaboration is a meaningful step towards providing accessible, culturally sensitive breast health information for young women in the community, helping them look after their health, their confidence, and their future.
What’s inside
The booklet highlights the signs of breast cancer to be aware of, guidance on checking and why doing so monthly matters.
