Check Your Boobs

Our charity

“A small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” – Margaret Mead

CoppaFeel! ® exists to educate and remind every young person in the UK that checking their boobs isn’t only fun, it could save their life. We are the first breast cancer charity in the UK to create awareness amongst young people, with the aim of instilling a new healthy habit that could one day save their life.

We are a very small team which, collectively, has one almighty big voice. Where we lack in experience and skills, we make up for in determination and valor. We were founded out of a need to right wrongs, and when we hear of more people diagnosed late, or young people dying from this disease, we know there isn’t a more powerful reminder to get up out of bed every morning.

CoppaFeel! is about more than discovering a cancer diagnosis. It’s about empowering ourselves to be proactive about our own health and body, as well as our outlook on life. It’s about knowing your boobs; knowing that if you do find something, you know what to do and if found early, you have many options. Put simply, breast cancer does not need to be detected late, and as long as we are here and continue to be supported by people like you, we will do all we can do make sure this doesn’t continue to happen. We are passionately committed to affecting real change.

What is our purpose?

To help everyone stand the best possible chance of surviving breast cancer by educating you on the importance of getting to know your boobs

What is our action?

  • We target young people in their natural habitat, be it at a festival or on their university campuses, we will be there to integrate a life saving message into their lives
  • We offer free and easy reminder services; we’re like a friendly bop on the head when you least expect it
  • We garner corporate support to co-brand and reach out to new audiences
  • We launch captivating, and some times challenging, national awareness campaigns that produce memorable PR
  • We organise events that don’t just raise funds, but awareness too
  • We enlist young breast cancer survivors to be our voice and create peer-to-peer awareness
  • We ask famous faces to help us reach an even wider audience
  • We may work with other cancer related organisations to ensure our message, time and funding is as effective as possible
  • We work with health professionals and policy makers to give early diagnosis the prominence it needs and deserves

What is our belief?

Too many women, and men, die of breast cancer due to late detection. Currently over 2000 cases are diagnosed at stage 4 each year – there is no stage 5. This is unnecessary.

We strongly believe all young people should be taught about all cancers and how to lead healthy lives from a young age. Which is why we have instigated a campaign to #RETHINKCANCER

How are we different?

  • We are proactive – learning healthy good habits when you are young can help you in years to come
  • Awareness is at the core of our operation

We are a registered charity in England and Wales (no. 1132366) and Scotland (SC045970), which was set up in 2009 with the following objectives as stated in the Memorandum and Articles of Association:

  • To promote understanding of breast cancer through education and awareness
  • To organise events and activities to generate income for charitable aims
  • To cooperate with other organisations to achieve common goals in synergy with our aims

Kris’ Story

What happens at 23? Well, if you’re lucky, seeing a bit of the world, boozing with mates and a whole load of carefree fun. And if you’re less lucky? Breast cancer. Which is precisely what happened to Kris in 2009.

Kris

Founder & CEO

kris Kris (aka. the Boob Chief), can easily be spotted in a chunky knit or her signature pom-pom slippers (yes, in the office). Since founding CoppaFeel! in 2009, Kris has been working her butt off to get young people talking about and checking their boobs. As well as captaining the boob crew, Kris is events planner extraordinare and knows how to throw a banging party - our sell-out festival, Festifeel, is case in point. When not keeping Boob HQ in shape, Kris will probably be found at home in Cornwall baking the worlds healthiest cake, stretching it out at pilates or cosying up with her feline friend Wilhelm to catch up on Love Island.

image of Maren

Maren

Co-Founder

maren Maren has been helping sail the CoppaFeel! ship since day one, and in that time her roles have included design whizz, fundraising chief, events manager and festivals co-ordinator. When Maren isn't dressed in lycra cycling up a mountain or taking on (another) half marathon in the name of boobs, she's at home in Cornwall tending to her veg patch. In Autumn 2016 Maren took a step back from her role as Director of Business Development to spend more time in the sunny south-west with her dog Rambo and husband Graham. But you'll still see her at our events, covered in glitter and cheering on our supporters from the sidelines!

Henrietta

Director of Business Support

hen Hen is the lady who makes sure the boob-world stays turning. Got questions about governance, financials, legal stuff? Hen's your woman. As well as being the source of serious boob-wisdom, Hen is the clipboard wielding mother of the group and could win a tea drinking competition with her eyes closed. She and her husband used to have to deal with naughty monkeys stealing food from their kitchen in South Africa, so she can pretty much deal with anything. And if she can't, a cup of tea can.

Natalie

Director of Marketing, Comms & Brand

nat Nat is the driving force behind our biggest marketing campaigns, working with our brand partners and creative agencies to shout CoppaFeel!'s boob-loving message from the rooftops (or, more accurately, billboards, cinema screens, magazines and bra labels). No challenge is too big for Nat - when not at Boob HQ, our terrarium loving Head of Brand moonlights as a Yoga Teacher and can be found teaching dachshunds the cat pose.

image of Sophie

Sophie

Director of Education & Health Comms

sophie Sophie works across our education projects to make sure the right messages are being heard by the right people  - working with doctors, primary care practitioners, teachers and politicians to try and put boob-checking at the top of the agenda. Sophie's also the lady behind our kick-ass collective of Boobettes and ALWAYS gets the 'stripy tops to work' memo - we can only assume is because she lived in Paris for a bit. When not at HQ can be found surfing, baking or releasing her creative energy through card making.

image of Sinéad

Sinéad

Social Media & Uni Boob Team Manager

sinead Sinéad looks after our social media, design and student ambassadors. She therefore spends a lot of time googling boob-related images (her search history is strictly private) and rallying our squad of Uni Boob Team Leaders. You'll often find her photoshopping puppies - all in the name of work, of course. Sinéad loves the word 'norks' and when she's not busy creating boob puns for Instagram, she'll either be doing pilates, on the sofa in front of a scandi-crime drama or trying to befriend dogs in Victoria Park.

image of Ellie

Ellie

Events & Fundraising Officer

ellie Ellie is our Events and Fundraising officer and the brains behind Boob Brunch, amongst other things. Fittingly, she loves brunch, and has a not so secret passion for spreadsheets and lists. Ellie is the person behind our challenger events and has a serious knack for rallying up the troops and fine tuning our events to perfection. She also likes taramasalata more than anyone we've ever encountered.

image of Kirsty

Kirsty

Fundraising Campaigns Manager

kirsty Kirsty joined the team at Boob Towers after working on the 2016 London Marathon and has been working her fundraising magic ever since! She looks after our biggest fundraising campaigns - from Boob Brunch to regular giving, Kirsty's got it in the bag. Fun facts about Kirsty: she loves yoga, her favourite fruit is mango, and if she could travel back to any period in time, she'd choose the Tudor period! Although to be honest, we're pretty glad she's here right now.

image of Daisy

Daisy

Administration Assistant

daisy Daisy is our Admin Assistant and helps us ensure the Boob world goes round. If you've ever received a parcel from us embellished with some rather attractive doodles, you have Daisy to thank (she's got an art degree, don't ya know?). When Daisy's not getting Boob HQ into ship shape, she can be found sniffing out the best thrift shop bargains - a very enviable talent, we think you'll agree.

Georgette

Video Content Creator

georgette Aside from being our first choice for test shots, Georgette is the creative genius behind some of CoppaFeel!'s best video content. Previous Summer Boob Tour Manager, and future Prime-Minister, Georgette makes up the Swedish constituent of our team, having recently moved to Stockholm. She also knows Little Mix’s back catalogue better than you know the back of your hand.

Jamie Clews

Trustee

jamie Jamie is our Marketing Guru and Chair of the Board. "I consider myself incredibly lucky to have been involved in CoppaFeel! from the very first meeting around a table at Kris and Maren's mum's house. Since then, I have seen the charity grow from the idea of a very small team of dedicated people to what I consider the best bloomin' charity in the UK. I'm proud to sit as chair of an amazingly talented and handsome board (see pics around me) and together we are committed to ensuring CoppaFeel! power on in the quest to help wipe out late detection of this stupid disease."

Simon Finnis

Trustee

simon_new Simon is a very important chap at IBM. "I first saw Kris on TV receiving her Pride of Britain award whilst I was living up a Swiss mountain and felt compelled to get in touch & involved.  CoppaFeel! is unique - it punches way above its weight, reaching its demographic in fun and innovative ways to raise awareness and save lives.  The team are a very special bunch who care about delivering a serious message in ways that never cease to surprise & amaze and being part of it, and our cause, is something very dear to me.  Plus they always have cake at the Trustee meetings.  Just saying."

Kate Lee

Trustee

kate_new Kate is the CEO of CLIC Sargent (aka. a very important lady). "I feel very lucky and honoured to be a trustee of CoppaFeel!. I have worked with loads of charities over lots of years and this one really is very special. My sister was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 30, having had a lump for over a year and being told by her GP all women get lumps and bumps and not to worry!   I know she would be proud of my involvement with such an amazing organisation. I feel like I bring mother hen qualities to our board and ask the boring questions like "did we risk assess that?” (someone needs to be boring round here!)"

Rachel Wilson

Trustee

rach_new Rachel is a doctor, don’t ya know. "I’m a junior doctor so I try to bring medical insight to the team, not just the medicine but the actual practicalities of what CoppaFeel! is trying to achieve for the great British public.   We want people to know their boobies because early detection whether that be in the incredibly unlucky 20somethings or the unlucky but unfortunately common 50somethings, it really is the way to beat this cruel disease. So know your boobies now, in the future and always; coppin' a feel needs to be a life long habit!"

Steve Stretton

Trustee

steve_new Steve is the board of Trustee's official Marketing God. "CoppaFeel! is an organisation that I feel incredibly close to. They have an attitude and a drive that I respect and admire. It's what makes them different. And I'm honoured to be their trustee."   Steve aka Marketing God has supported us since our humble beginnings when he used to head up the successful creative agency Archibald Ingall Stretton. He has helped us mastermind some of our boldest, most creative awareness campaigns since then and we’re very lucky to have his expertise and input on our trustee board.
