Breast cancer affects people of all ages and genders, including transgender and intersex people. Last week’s UK Supreme Court ruling does not change that.

Everyone has breast tissue – anyone, regardless of gender, can be affected by breast cancer. That’s why our work at CoppaFeel! has always been, and will continue to be, inclusive of all genders.
We are concerned about the potential impact of the ruling on how transgender and intersex people access healthcare. Marginalised communities, including trans and non-binary people, already face significant barriers to accessing care, and experience poorer health outcomes. This decision risks compounding those inequities.

CoppaFeel! is proudly trans+ inclusive. Transgender and intersex people are, and always will be, welcome in our community. We will continue to use inclusive language and approaches in everything we do.

We know this ruling – which defines sex as a biological category under the Equality Act – has raised serious and valid concerns for many in our community. People may be unsure what this means for their healthcare or their rights. We want you to know: you are not alone.

We are here for every young person. We will continue supporting all young people in knowing how to check their chests and how to get help if they notice a change, and we will continue engaging with healthcare providers to help ensure everyone receives the support they need.
We’ve worked with our friends at OUTpatients, the UK’s only LGBTIQ+ cancer charity, to co-create checking resources. These resources are for trans and non-binary people, and for anyone navigating body changes during or after transition.

The CoppaFeel! team stands in solidarity with the trans community, and we send our unconditional support. All of us, regardless of our gender or how we identify, have a right to equality without fear of discrimination.
