Who doesn’t love an excuse to eat lots of cake, especially when each delicious bite helps CoppaFeel! deliver our life-saving mission.

Cake sales are a staple in the world of fundraising, and for good reason too. They’re easy to set up, especially when you rope in some friends to help with the baking, and can be done in all sorts of venues – from workplaces to schools, even as part of another event.

Here are some helpful tips to make the most of your bake sale fundraiser:

When: You will need a few weeks to plan your bake sale and recruit additional helpers. Be sure to advertise your bake sale with plenty of time before the event. Cake sales typically last for a couple of hours if people are managing the stall, but you can also sell your sweet treats on a trust system and leave your colleagues to enjoy them throughout the day – just avoid leaving anything out that needs to be refrigerated.

Where: This could be your home, a local business, school or workplace. Be sure to get permission from the owner of the venue if you choose to hold the bake sale outside of your home.

How:

  • Fundraising – A great way to get started with your fundraising is by setting up a JustGiving page. At CoppaFeel! we find that this is the easiest way to share your bake sale with your friends and family, plus it’s super fun to watch your fundraising total climb higher and higher with each donation. You can also use your JustGiving page to create a QR code to display at your bake sale. Ask for a set amount per cake (we’d recommend between £1 – £5) or charge an entry fee to your event.
  • Materials – Be sure to let us know about your plans so we can send you some fundraising materials. Just fill out this form and we’ll get the goodies to you asap.
  • Decoration – Make sure your bake sale pops with some fa-boobulous decorations! You can find bunting, cake labels and more in our digital toolkit
  • Sharing the work – Ask others to bake cakes too (this is a great way to get people involved, even if they can’t make your actual cake sale). You could even turn the bake sale into a competition, with a prize for the best baker!
  • Safety – Remember to label each cake, avoid cross contamination and mark any allergens. Check out our Safe and Legal guide for more information on staying safe while fundraising.

Ways to bring in some extra dough!

  • Host a raffle alongside your bake sale.
  • Boost your fundraising efforts by organising games during your bake sale. People can participate in exchange for a small donation. If you’re stuck for game ideas, here are some of our favourites:

– Guess the number of sweets in a jar

– Pin the nipple to the boob

– Guess the weight of melons in a bra

  • Holding the bake sale at your office? Get your employer to match the funds you raise.
