Getting together with your friends + an element of competition = the perfect fundraising event.
Holding a pub quiz or getting together with friends over zoom? Quiz nights aren’t just a great excuse to flex your niche trivia knowledge, they’re also a fantastic way to raise life-saving funds to ensure that all breast cancers in young people are diagnosed early and accurately.
When: This will largely depend on the venue you choose. If you’re hosting a quiz online, you will only need a few weeks to come up with questions and find a time that works for everyone. If you’re renting out a local pub or venue for the night, factor in plenty of time and book ahead as places can get booked up months in advance. Quiz nights usually last around 2-3 hours.
Where: This can be your local pub, community space, or assembly hall, but you can of course hold a quiz over Zoom/Twitch as well. If you’re looking to book a venue, be sure to get in touch with our fundraising team at fundraiser@coppafeel.org to receive a Letter of Authority confirming you’re fundraising for us. Who knows, it might just get you a cheeky charity discount!
How:
- Fundraising – We’d recommend asking for an entry fee to take part (£50/team or £10/person is a good starting point if you’re not sure what to charge). A great way to collect donations is by setting up a JustGiving page. At CoppaFeel! we find that this is the easiest way to share your quiz night, plus it’s super fun to watch your fundraising total climb higher and higher with each donation. You can even use your JustGiving page to create a QR code, to make donating to your fundraiser even easier.
- Materials – Let us know about your plans well in advance so we can send you lots of awareness and fundraising materials for your quiz night. Just fill out this form and we’ll get the goodies to you asap. You can also find digital resources and other decorations here.
- Marketing – Share your quiz night far and wide. Post on socials, share in WhatsApp groups, put up a poster at your workplace and the venue where you’ll be holding your quiz. Here is a ready-to-go poster to make things easier for you.
- Prizes – Be sure to have some snazzy prizes lined up, so people are motivated to give it their all. You can ask the venue to donate a tab, or check with local businesses to see if they’re willing to support you with a prize. We find that visiting businesses in person and sharing why you’ve chosen to fundraise for CoppaFeel! works a treat.
- Questions – Choosing the right questions is important to make sure your guests have a good time. They should be challenging enough to make people think, but not so hard that no one has a chance to get at least a handful right. Make things interesting by having a few fun rounds (e.g. build the tallest tower, guess the tourist attraction based on 1 star reviews, create a list of words for boobs/pecs/chests that aren’t boobs, pecs or chests).
- Weave in the chest checking message – Quizzes are a great chance to get people clued up on the importance of monthly chest checking. We’d recommend including a round on breast cancer during your quiz (you can bust some myths, quiz people on stats around breast cancers, and test them on the signs and symptoms) and give people a chance to collect bonus points by signing up to our free monthly text reminders.
- Host – This can be you or a friend who’s happy to wield a microphone.
- Timing – Plan for an interval to give people a chance to top up on drinks and snacks. This is a great time to share why you’ve chosen to support CoppaFeel!.
Round up some extra cash!
- Give each team a chance to have a hint in exchange for a donation.
- If you’re holding your quiz at a pub, ask the owners if they can add an invisible special to their menu on the day of your quiz. Instead of receiving an extra course, guests get to donate towards your fundraiser and enjoy the warm and fuzzy feeling of knowing they’ve made a big difference to young people facing a breast cancer diagnosis. This is a great way to get people involved in your fundraiser, even if they are not taking part in the quiz.
- Hold a raffle, auction or organise other fun games to raise a few more pounds.
