However, we know that some people experience imbalances in breast cancer awareness or worse outcomes that stem from avoidable factors.

Pregnant women diagnosed with breast cancer are more likely to be diagnosed at a later stage.
We developed a pregnancy booklet in collaboration with Tommy’s, after we identified a need to raise awareness and education amongst this audience.
In the UK, up to 1 million people cannot speak English well or at all [1], and this group is less likely to report ‘good’ health outcomes than English speakers [2].
We have our leaflets available in English and 7 additional languages: Arabic, Bengali, Polish, Punjabi, Romanian, Urdu and Welsh.
We identified these languages as having some of the highest needs within the UK, the most demand amongst healthcare professionals and with the people we exist to serve.
We partnered with Black Women Rising to create The Chest Checklist. Driven by the need to redress a lack of representation, the checking video aims to drive awareness and educate Black women on the importance of breast awareness.
This video is also available in British Sign Language (BSL).
Research for LGBTQIA+ people is limited, but the charity OUTpatients reports that trans people show poorer health and a higher incidence of late-stage diagnosis.
We collaborated with OUTpatients to develop information and resources for trans and/or non-binary patients.
The London King’s College LeDeR 2022 Report found that 42% of all deaths in people with a learning disability were deemed to be avoidable. Of these deaths, cancer caused 15.7%, an increase from 8% in 2021.
We partnered with Ansar Projects, part of the Thera Group and Orchid, combining our collective experience to plug an information gap and create easy-read ‘Know Your Body’ cancer resources.
The resources aim to address the health inequities faced by patients with a learning disability, including supporting them to know their bodies.
We encourage you to use these in general appointments and during annual health checks for patients registered with a learning disability.
Signs of breast cancer may appear differently on your patient’s skin tone or body. Under the advice of Expert Reviewer, Research Radiographer and Clinical Advisor Naman Julka-Anderson, we added extra detail about how a change in colour may appear on a range of skin tones.
