Every volunteer has a story.

This Volunteers Week, we’re shining a light on the 24/25 Aberdeen Uni Boob Team and why they chose to get involved in our work.

So, who are the Uni Boob Team?

They’re a group of passionate student volunteers who raise awareness of breast cancer on campus. They run events like bake sales, fashion shows, and awareness talks, and work with other student groups to get people talking about checking.

This year, the Aberdeen team has held a festive Santa Dash, run pub quizzes, and teamed up with groups like LGBTQ+ Soc, sports teams, and even the Cold Water Dunking Society. They’ve found endlessly creative ways to spread our message:

Check your chest, know your normal, and if in doubt, get it checked out.

Here’s why they do what they do.

I volunteered to be part of the CoppaFeel! Uni Boob Team because breast cancer has affected my family, and I know how important early detection is. Raising awareness among young people feels really personal to me. I want to help others feel confident checking themselves and have those life-saving conversations. It’s a good way of turning something painful into something powerful!” – Anna, Boob rep

“I chose to volunteer for a few reasons. Firstly, I’ve seen how much fun members of the Uni Boob Team have. The chance to support a good cause while also having fun seemed too good to miss!

Secondly, my mum is a doctor and talks a lot about how cancer is becoming more common in young people. I know how important it is for young adults – including boys like myself – to know their normal.

My family has also been closely affected by cancer. Getting involved and raising awareness for CoppaFeel! felt like a small but valuable way of joining the fight.” – Alex, Pec rep

I decided to join the Uni Boob Team after going to one of their socials. Everyone was warm and welcoming, and I got to learn more about CoppaFeel!’s mission.

Since then, I’ve been part of the society for two years and have met so many amazing people. I really feel like we’ve made an impact on campus for everyone to start checking their chest!”- Grace, Team Leader (aka “President”)

“I chose to volunteer for the Aberdeen Uni Boob Team because I strongly believe in CoppaFeel!’s message. Breast cancer doesn’t discriminate – it can affect anyone of any age, gender, and background. I want to make sure that students understand checking could save their life.

CoppaFeel!’s mission resonates with me on a personal level, as my own family has been directly affected by breast cancer. Through volunteering, I want to help others understand the value of early detection. I want to challenge the stigma surrounding conversations about breast health and help save lives. I want to be part of a movement that empowers people to take charge of their health. For me, being part of the Uni Boob Team committee is the right way to do that.” – Maya, Vice President
